Mt. Masungki and Nagpatong Rock Formation Muddy Experience

I’ve been climbing since early this year, January of 2018 to be precised but this is the first time I put my experience into writing. Thanks to my friend Macre for inspiring me.

To make the story short,me and my friends decided to visit Mt. Masungki and Nagpatong Rock Formation at Brgy Cayumbay Tanay, Rizal on August 25-26th. So I looked online for a sample itineray then customized it for our team.

Its a cloudy day with a little rain when we meet and ride jeepney at Cogeo, Sampalok Jeepney Terminal at 1PM. We dropped off at Cayumbay brgy road, then ride a tricycle/habal-habal going to brgy/DENR hall. We registered at 3 PM and take another ride (trike/habal habal) going to jump off.

We started trekking to our first distination, Nagpatong Rock Formation at 3:30PM. Since it is very slipery we arrived there at 5:30 PM. Nagpatong Rock Formation is very exciting. Though there are wood ladders in between, its still heart pumping when you need to twist, turn ang even swing to get to the other side. Photo -op at the top for 30 minutes then set up our camp just beside Nagpatong Rock Formation.

There is a small store and 4 cottages that you can rent out for just a minimal fee of 50php. At 8pm we took our dinner, then made fun until 10pm.

DAY 2

We decided to have our call time at 3am. Then took an hour and half for our break camp and breakfast. We start ascending at 4:30 AM, its still dark so headlamp and flashlights are needed. Its really exciting since it’s our first time doing a night trek.

The trail is quite easy at first though the mud made our trek tricky and slower.

Then after about an hour of trek, we were welcomed by rocky terrain. There, it is literally rock climbing. The rock are edgy so I regret not bringing a pair of gloves.

We reached the summit at 7:30 AM and enjoyed the magnificent view until 9:00 AM.

We descended at 9:00 AM and reached the brgy proper at 1:30 PM. We still wanted to go to Tungtung falls but due to time limitation as the jeepney going back to cogeo is just until 7:00 PM, we decided not to and just cleaned ourself. Enjoy singing karaoke then left the brgy at 4:00 PM.

We arrived at the highway at 4:10 PM then wait for a jeepney going back to cogeo. We waited almost an hour before we get a ride. The jeepney is already full so we asked if we can ride on the toploader. It additional fun as most of us are first time to ride on the toploader.
